Blank Slate: A Comprehensive Library of Photographic Templates

I’ve talked before about how showing identity work using Photoshop mockups can really bring an idea to life. So it was interesting to get Blank Slate in the post, courtesy of Gestalten.

Blank Slate

You know the idea…

The book is a hardback reference catalogue that might make it a little easier to find the exact “blank slate” you’re looking for. More than 1,000 images are labelled with codes that correspond to the TIFF files on the included DVD.

All images are available on white and on black backgrounds, except for the few in the sadly lacking “environment” section — it’s a shame there isn’t a wider variety here.

I’ve built a decent library of these images, but this is a nice alternative to signing up to a stock photography website.

  1. Looks like a great resource. It really does look cool when you can simulate a logo ‘in-use’, especially on a nice background. Often it makes the design ‘click’ with the client.

  2. Thank you for sharing David. One particular advantage in these is consistency, you’ll get a similar style, quality, and size across your material.

  3. Definitely a great resource. The availability and consistency of the templates will definitely be one of the great things about this.

Great idea! And also much cheaper than some websites I’ve considered.

  5. This is a great way to present work.
Especially to clients who find it hard to visualise the end product.
This looks like a really useful resource.

  6. Thank you for sharing, David. It really does look cool when you can simulate a logo ‘in-use’, especially on a nice background.

  7. What color profile do you use, since there is none embedded within the files?

  8. Looks good but I really wish purchasers were given access to a website where content could be updated and expanded . . . especially that environments section!

  9. I think its a great idea! But what about creating mockups/templates in Photoshop and then converting the end product to video? You can then
display your work to the client on your IPad!

  10. Hey this seems great! thanks for sharing david… I’m sure such templates can be very useful.

    Has anyone purchased it?
I wonder what the resolution of the images is.

  12. Thank you for sharing David. The availability and consistency of the templates will definitely be one of the great things about this. I’m sure such templates can be very useful.

  13. Thank you for sharing David, Kudos! Blank Slate is both refreshing and a Godsend!

  14. Great book, it’s proving to be very helpful!

  15. I bought the book and I am really happy with it. That said, the product would have been better if it provided PSD files with editable smart object. With some of the templates I am kind of in the dark, since no dimensions are provided.
