Alan Kitching on his life in letterpress

“Letterpress is no longer relevant today. That’s a fact.”

Alan’s book, A Life in Letterpress, is out this month and gives a chronological view of his work over the decades. It looks brilliant. Must get a copy. (On Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk.)

This is such a beautiful form of art! On a recent visit to Nashville, TN, my husband and I toured Hatch Show Print and learned more about the history of letterpress in the eastern US. I love their motto, “preservation through production,” and their goal to continue using the same presses and wood blocks to preserve and respect the process.

Thank you for sharing this. Another book to add to my wish list!

    1. I’d love a tour of that place, Elise. For now I’ve had to make do with this short documentary (which is great).

They did a great job capturing the feel of it. I guess that is the next best thing to an actual visit. 🙂
