I jotted a few notes from Be Bold 101, by Nicholas Bate. Some stellar advice.
You might remember Nicholas from a mention this time last year: Be brilliant at the basics.
If he keeps it up this might become a theme.

A great list, but I’m totally distracted by his “ot”s, which look like pound signs.
I need to take the rap for that, Daniel.
This is a great post. Thanks for sharing. The ‘never give up’ attitude is something that will definitely help get us through almost any problem. That’s the relentless spirit. One thing I learned before I became a bestselling author and long before Inc Magazine voted my company as one of the fastest growing companies is that having a plan is the most basic and vital requirement for almost everything that we do in life.
Thanks David, I love your website and tell you that your work is excellent, I’m from Colombia and these tips are ideal for the beginning of this year where we planifircar advance our goals and not lose heart. God bless you.
I am trying to focus on #4, 5, 6 in the new year. Writing everyday will definitely be a challenge 🙂
I think as designers we need to get accustomed with point #1 and learn to see complaints as opportunities.
Thanks David, brilliant, I might print it out and put it up on a wall, seriously brilliant.
Best wishes
Graeme
#4, #5, #7, and #9 are important when the going gets tough; it’s better to remain calm, positive, prepare yourself for the opportunities that lie ahead and just believe in yourself. I do need some work in #6 though with my blog as I’ll be starting my spring semester at college in two weeks so it looks like I still got some time to write until I get swamped in work again. :/
Thanks for sharing David. Your handwriting is better than mine!
Some great advice there David, thanks for sharing. I particularly like #1 & #4 but all have meaning. I’m a sucker for these kind of quotes. I love the whole execution of the 101 concept.
Thanks for the reminder. I am going to get off of design blogs now and go design in the real world.
I love the list! I think I struggle the most with #4 and 6.
Reading this list also reminded me that I should probably write down my list of 2012 resolutions. 🙂 (I have a list in my mind but haven’t written it down)
‘be principled yet flexible’. Wow, that’s deep, and it keeps ringing in my head and heart. Thanks for the post. Was timely.
Never noticed the ‘ot’s’ – had to look twice 😉
A very inspiring list David, typifies the 11th commandment.
I need to hang this up in front of my desk and/or get this tattooed somewhere I can read it everyday.
Great read & great way to live by for sure.
Number 2 is my favourite. Probably the hardest to stick to though. There’s something very aesthetically pleasing to a scanned handwritten note.
