Chalet C7, Portillo, Chile

Chalet C7 is in the Andes Mountains, 2,900 metres above sea level, and a few miles from Mount Aconcagua. The chalet overlooks the Inca Lagoon with the “Tres Hermanos” peaks in the background.

“The project was organized as two superposed volumes inserted in the topography. Below, a strong stone body shelters the private areas of the house. This stone enclosure and its controlled openings absorb the variations of the snow level during winter, anchoring the refuge to the slope and its rocky surroundings. Above this stone podium, a lighter steel and glass structure merges in one single space the common areas of the refuge; dinning table, living room, kitchen, terrace. This flexible space is fully open towards the views to the north.”

Wow, no kidding David this place it’s beautiful. Also in summer time looks great, the picture with the swimming pool and the snow (at the portillo hotel website), really nice, thanks for sharing.

The question is… how successful a graphic designer do you need to be to afford this?

At least it was a good afternoon bubble in my graphic design studies. 🙂

  3. I absolutely love this. The way that it faces the water and the architecture and furniture fit very well together. I just wondered how cold it is there and if they have to worry about avalanches.

  4. Wow, this is very impressive. Everything from the unique architecture to the peak view. It must be very peaceful and cosy. The north elevation makes the chalet appear as a ship. Also it’s not just about the subjective design, a lot of science goes into the architecture to fit within it’s environment. It’s a dream house.

Thanks a lot for sharing David, amazing location really.

FYI, the guys at Ignant (http://www.ignant.de/?lang=en) also post very cool architecture work from all over the world, worth having a look at!
    Cheers

  6. Breathtaking!

  7. More successful than me, Letty. Unfortunately.

Filipe, nice shout. The architecture category is class. http://www.ignant.de/category/architecture/

  8. Nice place. Beautiful location, though it’s a bit much like home with the snow and ice and cold to be my holiday destination.
The big yellow hotel in the peripheral is a bit distracting. I imagined this little getaway a little more remote. (though having it close has it’s benefits as well)
    Thanks for sharing

  9. See you there, David. You’re paying, right?

That’s a beautiful building with even more beautiful surroundings.

  10. I’ll buy you a pint, Richard. 🙂

Breathtaking location for a home – and the home is very aesthetic – would be a perfect Bond location.

  12. Wonderful! Reminiscent of Norway – a place I just love.

  13. I’ve yet to visit Norway, Anita. One day.

Does this place get rented to the public?

    1. I think so, Ammer, but you’d need to ask Ski Portillo (the hotel beside it): http://www.skiportillo.com/en
