But the tower was closed to the public after irreparable damage by arsonists.
Cue Belgian engineering firm Close to Bone, 13 tonnes of steel, and a “war against weight.”
The “Vlooybergtoren” stands at 11.28 metres tall, built on a galvanised substructure, and clad in weathering steel — a reference to the red-brown colour of the ironstone from the region.
