“This little house is the final result of a long, long journey partially driven by desires and dreams, but also by technicality and a scientific approach.”
— Renzo Piano

Diogene

Designed by Renzo Piano, the front part serves as a living room with a pull-out sofa and folding table. Behind the partition is a shower and toilet as well as a kitchen, reduced to the necessary.

Water is collected by the house itself, cleaned and reused, and the house supplies its own power.

Diogene

The building is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope who is said to have lived in a barrel because he considered worldly luxuries to be superfluous.

The current model is the latest stage of prototyping, with Art Basel 2013 being used as a testing period to inform the design’s development.

  1. I really like the idea of having a creative space like this, especially in an inspiring location somewhere. It reminds me of Andrea Zittel’s wagon station units on her ranch in California.

  2. Very minimalistic. It looks too confined for my taste though.

  3. Thoreau would be jealous.

  4. Lovely idea but yes, a little too confined for my liking, too. I like the red sofa.

  5. I love the idea, but I don’t think I would even fit through the door, lol. I find myself more productive in my own creative space, a little corner for myself to get lost in my projects.
